Relief is one of the most impactful forms of artistic expression. It offers a visual and tactile experience by adding dimension to a surface within a limited depth and a kind of balance between painting and sculpture.
The bronze mirror boxes from the Hellenistic period at the Metropolitan Museum, which I had the opportunity to observe and which greatly inspire me with their round shapes and subtle details on their embossment while I am working on my reliefs.
I usually work figuratively on round forms which gives me the idea of continuity and infinity. They evoke the natural cycles of life and the unending flow of time, which I aim to capture in my relief sculptures.
